Zenvo ST1 Design – Wholly Original Supercar, Familiar Elements
The Zenvo ST1 exterior design works from nearly every angle, and apes notable features from everything from the Lamborghini Gallardo to the Nissan GT-R, to the Porsche Carerra GT. Though some ST1 details are familiar, the Danish supercar as a total package manages to avoid looking like a who’s-who mashup.

It’s been nearly 42 years since the original Ford Mustang Boss 302 hit the streets running and quickly sped into the annals of automotive performance history. Today, Ford revealed the successor to its original iconic thoroughbred, and endowed it with exactly the same kind of take-no-prisoners attitude of its illustrious forbear. Based on the 2011 Ford Mustang GT, the limited-edition Boss 302 benefits from a comprehensive factory makeover intended to create “the quickest, best-handling straight-production Mustang ever offered by Ford. Lotus has made quite a name for itself over the years by building fast, nimble machines for both road and track. At the heart of any Lotus automobile is the sacred principle of greater performance through lighter weight: The lighter the car, the better it will perform.
This design philosophy can be seen not only in the Lotus Elise roadster and Exige coupe, but in several other Lotus-designed or partly built sports cars as well (Tesla Roadster, anyone?), since all are built around a revolutionary, lightweight chassis based on bonded and riveted aluminum sheets and extrusions. Lotus is even working with mainstream automakers such as Toyota to cut vehicle weight in an attempt to improve fuel economy and overall performance.

Automotive journalists have the best job in the world. Not only do we get the opportunity to drive most vehicles before the public, but media days at the auto show offer the special occasion to see what’s coming in the next few months or even a year or two down the road.
Some manufacturers, such as Honda at this year’s 2010 NAIAS, even went so far as to talk about the year 2080 and what things could be like. Gene Roddenberry of Star Trek fame would have been proud.

The focus on this year’s New York International Auto Show is just what the third word in the title says, international. With less spotlight on domestic vehicles and more on imports and those built by foreign automakers on home soil, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler were suspiciously quiet. Could it be the calm before the storm? The answer is probably not.
For the most part, Ford is almost completely new having revamped their line-up over the past 24 months. Cadillac is rolling out CTS models at a frantic pace and Chrysler is still sorting through the benefits of their recent marriage to Fiat. It was time for Chevrolet and Lincoln to wave the flag and draw attention to good old North American ingenuity in vehicle design. Here are several highlights in our part two coverage of the show.

Low-flying private jets, tire-liquefying gentlemen’s expresses—whatever you call Mercedes’ CL63 and CL65 AMG models, they’re going to take more names and kick more assumptions to the curb after a 2011 refresh. There are the expected visual tweaks, but the real action is under the surface, where new electronic gadgets join a revised engine lineup.

An Elegant Shape
The A7 actually is the second recent Audi to play this tune, but it will be the only one sold in the U.S.; the 2010 A5 Sportback will remain forbidden fruit. But we don’t mind that we had to wait for such a four-ringer, as we feel the swoopy styling looks even more fantastic stretched over the A7’s longer, 114.6-inch wheelbase. You might notice that figure puts the A7 size-wise in between the latest 2011 A8(117.8-inch wheelbase) and the current A6 (111.9), which could lead to some confusion over this car’s origins. Let’s put that to rest: The A7’s underpinnings are more closely related to the A6’s, specifically those of the next-generation A6, which is due out for 2012.
